Being healthy may seem pretty simple. If you eat a healthy, well-balanced diet, you should have no problems!
While this type of eating should be the goal, there are a handful of mistakes that you might be making.
Opting For Fruit Juices
Having the occasional glass of orange juice isn’t necessarily bad for you. However, the ever popular fresh pressed juices may actually be the thing getting in the way of achieving your health goals.
While fruit sugars are natural, when fruits are juiced, a key component of their nutrients is missing! FIBER = helps to give you that full feeling.
Unfortunately, a lot of fruit juices have an incredibly high amount of sugar, especially when multiple fruits are combined. All of that sugar can contribute to spiking and crashing your blood sugar levels. This can leave you feeling irritable, tired, and even unable to focus.
If you’d like to make a better selection, opt for fruit juices that are lower on the glycemic index. Or select juices that are vegetable based with maybe 1 fruit.
Relying On Cleanses
Part of eating a well-balanced diet is eating foods that are rich in essential nutrients. While a cleanse may seem like a good idea if you’ve been overindulging, they can actually lead to your body detoxing too quickly or not getting enough nutrients!
When you are eating well, a few small indulgences along the way won’t cancel out all of the nutritious eating that you do.
If you insist on a cleanse, make sure that it meets the amount of nutrients you need to feel healthy and happy. No matter what, listen to your body, if things don’t feel right take it as a sign that it is time for some real food!
Using Boxed Milk Alternatives
Whether you are using almond milk or soy, you may not realize that those options may be hiding some pretty awful ingredients.
Shelf stable milks may be just the right price, but they are usually filled with ingredients that help them stay fresh on the shelves for so long. These milk alternatives are more processed than their milk counterparts!
If possible try to make your own nut milks. The nutrient levels will be higher and you will be able to control the flavor and amount of sugar that goes in.
This one is a big one! Whether you have had a busy day or just don’t have anything easy to throw together, skipping meals is possibly the biggest mistake you can make.
The body needs nutrients to function properly. Not only does the body need them, the brain needs nutrients too. When we deprive ourselves of nutritious meals, we force the body into a deficit.
If you have a hard time sitting down for three full meals, aim for several smaller meals over the course of your day to allow the body sufficient nutrients.
Just remember, no matter how healthy you are, you may be making mistakes that can lead to an imbalance in your diet. Being reasonable and aware will help to keep your body strong and your overall well being going in the healthy direction you like!
No matter how you eat, always listen to how your body feels when you eat. Your body will be your best indicator of your overall health and wellness.
